S. Rahima Benhabbour, PhD.

Founder & Director

Dr. Benhabbour is an Assistant Professor at the UNC_NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, Division of Pharmacoengineering and Molecular Pharmaceutics. She has over 10+ years’ experience in polymer chemistry, device engineering, pharmacology and drug delivery.

Dr. Benhabbour has filed three patents on drug delivery platforms and works in collaboration with world renowned experts, within academia, government and industry, to design and translate innovative drug delivery platforms for unmet medical needs. Dr. Benhabbour received a Ph.D. degree in Organic/Polymer Chemistry from McMaster University (Canada), a master’s degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Minnesota and an undergraduate degree in Polymer Engineering from the Algerian Petroleum Institute (Algeria). Dr. Benhabbour joined the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy as a postdoctoral Fellow and was promoted to a Research Faculty and then a tenure track Assistant Professor.
